Report on the Swiss Juggling Convention which took place during the weekend of October 2nd and 3rd 2021 in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva.

This is the fourth time that the Swiss Juggling Convention was in Geneva. This 34th edition took place in the "Aimée-Sitelmann" school in Plan-les-Ouates, like the 25th edition in 2011.

The event should have been held in 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic complicated the planning. Despite this, the organization was excellent, everything worked perfectly and I heard nothing but compliments from the participants. So well done to the organizing team for mobilizing so many volunteers.

They also innovated by hiring local teenagers, supervised by Social Workers Outside the Walls (Travailleurs Sociaux Hors Murs (TSHM)). Once again, Bravo, it was a great success in collaboration with the commune. It is an idea that should be retained for futures conventions.

In addition to the organization of the festival for jugglers, a part was planned for younger people, with many extensions in the field of the circus. Thanks to the circus school "le Salto de l’Escargot" for their help.

The energy of the organizers was enormous, so they also planned an open stage at 6 p.m., the usual public show at 9 p.m. on Saturday and a show at 1 p.m. on Sunday. All of them were very successful.

We were lucky again, the weather was great on Saturday and many jugglers stayed outside to practice their art. On Sunday, however, the weather turned bad around 2 pm.

I spent many hours at the reception desk where I provided several puzzles that were very successful and amused the jugglers.

At the reception and at the shows, we had to control the sanitary passes and the identities of the participants, which was very demanding for everyone. What I appreciate about the jugglers is their Respect and Openness. I have not heard any complaints or complications related to these checks.

Openness and Respect for others and the environment is what attracted me to jugglers and still does. The workshops are not limited to juggling, but extend to clowning, rubber band and rope manipulation, yoga, massage and sometimes even sign language and Esperanto.

The festival ended with a clean-up, preceded by the usual juggling games, which took place in the spirit of "playing is more important than winning".
With the help of several participants, the clean-up was quick.

From the participants' point of view, the convention was very enjoyable, with many workshops, several performances and many opportunities to exchange skills. I heard a lot of positives feedbacks.

Thanks to the city of Plan-les-Ouates for its help in organizing this convention and for the beautiful venue.

Big Thanks to Christelle Gaignant, Déborah Magat and their team for this beautiful convention.

Bernard Gisin.
